On May 19, 2014, UC Davis released a preliminary drought economic impacts report that projects 410,000 acres of fallowed farmland, 14,500 job losses and a $1.7 billion hit to California’s agricultural economy. Those figures are reflected in a new California Farm Water Coalition Drought Update, which also looks at business failures, San Joaquin Valley poverty rates and mortgage failures, all indicators of our state’s broken water supply system.
